Poems and Stuff

I hadn't heard of Tom Leonard before, but some of his poems are really good. The dialect transcription's a difficult to get your eyes round at first, but very accurate. I particularly like this one: Doon the Close.

The local paper at my parents' recently had an article on a new website set up to showcase the work of local poets, most of whom seemed to be carrying on the noble traditional of McGonagall. But at least they were sincere about it.

Meanwhile, here in Cambridge, I came across www.cambridgepoetry.org/. This appears to be a group carrying on the noble tradition of the Surrealist Compliment Generator, only without any of its self-deprecating humour. It's all very Cambridge (complete with crimplene badgers and the lobotomization of troublesome fruit, apparently :-(
