Pummelvision

Photojojo's latest mad photo suggestion was to try out Pummelvision, a site that gathers all your Flickr Photos into one rapid-fire movie. So here are all of mine, in 3 and 1/2 minutes, for the hard of concentrating ;-)

Madrigirls

I was in the University Chapel photographing the Madrigirls' 10th Anniversary concert and rehearsal on Sunday. I was a Madrigirl for a couple of years, back when Katy and Catriona started the group (we couldn't persuade any of the Chapel Choir men to sing madrigals at the time, although there are now several Madriguys who take part in the concerts).

My favourite concert was a summer one in the cloisters under the Bute Hall (they have a fantastic acoustic, but for about 90% of the year this is overshadowed by the howling gales and horizontal rain coming through) where, among other things we sang Sumer is Icumen In.

Anyway, the Madrigirls concerts are now established as some of the most popular events in the West End music scene and the Chapel was completely packed. So I wound up sitting in one of the fancy stalls right at the front, which I think were intended for the Chancellor or the Bishop of Glasgow or something, and was on tenterhooks before the start in case one of them turned up and demanded his seat back. There was a bad moment when the Principal appeared, but luckily he didn't seem interested in wrestling my seat from me and sat somewhere else.

Earlier that afternoon I'd been wandering around the rehearsal trying to get some unusual angles...

this one had a kind of Pre-Raphaelite feeling for some reason...maybe the purple banner...

(Recordings of the concert are now up here - make sure your browser doesn't attempt, as mine does, to play them all simultaneously though...)

Snails in the Hood

I'm considering taking up snail graffiti, as practised in the above picture by artist Slinkachu...

F.O. Machete

After the Cathures concert on Saturday (which went well, but required me to wear 5 layers of clothing to survive the cold) I headed over to King Tut's to photograph F.O. Machete...

...and Little Doses. As you can see, Vampire Lighting Man was not in charge this time...

More pics over here. And the original version of a cover Machete did which I really liked:

Cathures

If you're in Glasgow on 27th come along and listen to the Cathures concert, which includes a slightly sinister carol written by (possibly) a witch, a very fast Eastern European piece in Latin, with shouting, and various pieces by Tallis and Byrd.

Halloween Music

I was at Nice N Sleazy on Saturday night to photograph a gig by Magazine Gap. I was there kind of early and it was a bit quiet to start with......but soon livened up. Most of the city was enthusiastically embracing the fancy dress theme and I spotted a tellytubby rumaging through a bin, a fortune teller (complete with portable booth) and (my personal favourite) a chap wearing a t-shirt with "Fe 26" on the sleeve and a kind of pentagon shape on the front, whom I took to be Iron Man...
The Blues Brothers listening to heavy metal played by skeletons:

(I ran into the drummer before they went on who was worrying that his outfit was a bit short and only reached his knees, but since he was sitting down it didn't really matter...)

The guys from Magazine Gap were a bit taken aback at the level of costumed-ness (apparently it's not a big thing in England) but there aren't many bands who can claim to have a big Muppet following...

More (sensible) photos to follow shortly....
