Gadverts

I don't know what the wee adverts that gmail pops up at the top of the page are really called. There's probably a name for them though. For example: apparently email that you did ask for, but you don't necessarily want to read now (or ever) is called "bacon".

Anyway, a fascinating one just appeared at the top of my mail:

MENTAL GUITAR SECRET

In my ongoing battle with the guitar I couldn't resist seeing what this was and, indeed, it does sound fairly mental. Particularly the part that promises:
"Guitarists! Watch Your Fingers Play
Confidently Around The Fretboard While
You Decide What To Create Next!"

Which seems thoroughly disturbing on several levels.

It turns out to be one of those books that allow you to memorize all the notes on the fretboard. I have never really worked out how this is all that helpful. A wee bit helpful, maybe, but I know where all the notes are. I just can't necessarily get my fingers onto them in the right combinations at the right time. I also know where all the notes are on the violin and the piano, with the same problem...

Continuing the guitar theme, but including photos, I came across this cartoon on slithy-toves' flickr page (she has lovely photos as well as the cartoon):

Outside now

Alison and Michael jumping for joy at the sight of me approaching them with a camera yet again.

Alison's mum's visiting cat not jumping for joy at the sight of me approaching with a camera, and then Photoshopped to boot...

Cow Parade

Heather pointed out that the scary cow I photographed in Edinburgh last month was actually originally in the 2006 Cow Parade. That might be why it's so pissed-off looking - all the other cows got to go home and it's stuck in Edinburgh being clambered on by terrifying schoolkids. Also, it's actually a bull apparently. And here was me considering taking up a career as a vet...

Anyway, Heather has a whole set of photos of the parade, complete with captions, over here...

Northern Lights

I may have cheated a wee bit with this one. Can you tell?

Cat Fit

Wimsey worries about the effects of too many Whiskas pouches... Actually, she really doesn't.

Chamma Chamma

I found this clip on YouTube of the dance we're trying to learn at the Bollywood classes just now. Except our version is vastly simplified, we don't have the fancy outfits, and if the teacher stops dancing at any point we stand around looking lost. We also don't have a bunch of over-enthusiastic old men milling about and joining in. Yet...

Lowdown

It's quite hard to do this since I can't actually see through the viewfinder from this angle. I'm hoping to train up a crack team of photographic snails to operate the camera in future.
