It's kind of a tangle, as in "my shoelaces got all fankled up and I tripped over them". There's apparently a shop selling wool for knitting and stuff called Fankle: http://www.fankle.co.uk This would be a very appropriate place for me to buy wool, if I wasn't so awful at knitting that it's not worth the bother ;-)
